The Collectors Society

By Heather Lyons

After years in Wonderland, Alice has returned to England as an adult, desperate to reclaim sanity and control over her life. An enigmatic gentleman with an intriguing job offer too tempting to resist changes her plans for a calm existence, though. Soon, she’s whisked to New York and initiated into the Collectors’ Society, a secret organization whose members confirm that famous stories are anything but straightforward and that what she knows about the world is only a fraction of the truth.

It’s there she discovers villains are afoot–ones who want to shelve the lives of countless beings. Assigned to work with the mysterious and alluring Finn, Alice and the rest of the Collectors’ Society race against a doomsday clock in order to prevent further destruction . . . but will they make it before all their endings are erased?

My Review:

I have to start by saying there are more books in the series that I haven’t finished yet.

But,

I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THIS SERIES.

I mean epic idea. I mean who would have thought what Alice and Wonderland was up to years later?

Opening scene: She’s in a mental institution.

HOOKED since that point!

This is a completely original, absolutely amazing, series. I can’t even put it into words. The description, the angst, the feels…

If there is one series you read this year let it be this one!

By Victoria Aveyard

The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.

To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.

Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.

But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

 My Review:

First of all can we all have a moment of silence for the beautiful cover. Now, I’m a firm believer in less is more because this cover is absolutely gorgeous!

(Totally judging based on the cover right now, but it paid off)

Victoria had me at red and silver blood– like what?! Mind Blown!

You follow Mare who was born a red blooded peasant with nothing to look forward to but dying in the silver bloods battle

With a crazy turn of events she displays powers of her own and she even ends up in the running to be a Princess.

Victoria blew me away especially for this being her first novel! I’m completely hooked and anxiously awaiting the next book… very impatiently!

♥♥♥♥♥ –  5 shocking stars 🙂

NHM Cover

Synopsis:

Everyone has a wish. Desiree’s just got real.

For forty-five years, eternally-eighteen-year-old Desiree has been in a sort of limbo, granting wishes for others while never receiving her own. Now it’s the hippie-genie’s turn, and she’s finally going to get what she asked for so long ago. A second chance at life.

She has two options: go back or start fresh. Going back means a do over. Returning to 1968 to when her best friend, brother, and parents are still alive. But will anything change and is it worth the risk of reliving all of the pain for a second time? Maybe starting fresh is the better option.
Both of her choices take her away from Kaf though. And that’s a huge problem because falling in love with her chauvinistic, exasperating, gorgeous boss was the last thing Desiree ever expected.

The Infernal Devices By Cassandra Clare

Infernal Devices

The Infernal Devices Series

Synopsis from Clockwork Angel:

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London’s Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa’s power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm’s length . . . everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world. . . . and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

My Review:

This Series totally gutted me. I had an idea of what would happen because I had read the Mortal Instruments before I started this series– but I had no idea it would hit me so hard.

The story revolves around the mystery of Tessa and her heritage and why does everyone want her special gifts? But it’s the love triangle that brought on the tears. Is it possible to be in love with two people at once? What do you in that case? The epitome of the best (& most emotional) love triangle I would’ve ever hoped to have read/imagined.

The way Cassandra ended this series– perfection. I laughed, I cried and in the end I sobbed like a baby. The quotes in this book are too awesome for words. I can’t even express in words what this series did to me, it’s something you have to experience for yourself. Everything I read from Cassandra is just awesome, at this point I think I would read her grocery lists.

♥♥♥♥♥- I have no words other than it’s a Must Read!

The Mortal Instruments Series By Cassandra Clare

Mortal Instruments

The Mortal Instruments

Synopsis from City of Bones:

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

My Review:

Okay, I have to admit I’m slightly obsessed with this series. You are fully emerged and invested in this new shadowhunter lifestyle. The whole love triangle thing definitely was what kept me going through the first three books, I had to prove that this wasn’t true. I love the sarcastic humor and banter between all the characters. It was everything one is looking for in a book —  hilarious dialogue, hint of mystery, some romance, and action packed.

The last three books is when the story really evolved. I love the way it just tied everything up in the end yet left it open for more to develop– it was just perfection.

I found it beautifully written, but I have to say sometimes the description got too much for me. I found myself skipping paragraphs of description to get to the dialogue. But the way that Cassandra hooks us in will make me read all of her other books. I wish I could un-read them so that I could read them all over again!

♥♥♥♥♥- 5 Amazing stars! Must Read Series!

Renaria Into the Adyton By, JL Wilson

Screen Shot 2014-11-18 at 10.07.35 PM

Synopsis:

A small memento, a universal power… It’s the year 2126, post-World War V. Leda, age seventeen, bounds through the lush forested region of the Desintor Foothills as a regal, bow-wielding, High-Elf Scout. That is, when she’s logged into her favorite MMO game: Renaria.

One crisp fall afternoon, an unseasonal storm fractures the sky of Trinton, New Texas with splinters of emerald lightning and otherworldly songs. Oddly, no one sees the storm except her brother and their guild mate Travis.

She brushes off the event as a fluke, but she can’t seem to get the song out of her mind. Suddenly, a new quest appears in her game directing her to the blue sand dunes of the Sinare Desert to meet Caleb, a legendary Elf Diviner.

Now she has a choice: Ignore the quest and turn off the game, or dive in and risk everything for a shot at an adventure.

My Review:

Wow, just wow. The way the world of Renaria comes alive across the pages is unbelievable. I envy the imagination it takes to create something like that!

It’s set in Earth’s distant future you follow a set of twins and their friends as they play a seemingly harmless video game. The first thought that came to mind when I was reading, this is the Digital futuristic version of Jumanji.

I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the story follows Leda and her brother Alex on their mysterious and twisted journey to Renaria. They experience and learn things they thought were only fantasy. They develop and grow as their video game characters would (super cool right?!)  but the stakes are higher than they could have ever imagined.

♥♥♥♥♥- 5 stars! Can’t wait for the next one!!
